The Pledge (The Pledge #1)

The Pledge (The Pledge #1)

by

In the violent country of Ludania, the classes are strictly divided by the language they speak. The smallest transgression, like looking a member of a higher class in the eye while they are speaking their native tongue, results in immediate execution. Seventeen-year-old Charlaina has always been able to understand the languages of all classes, and she's spent her life trying to hide her secret. The only place she can really be free is the drug-fueled underground clubs where people go to shake off the oppressive rules of the world they live in. It's there that she meets a beautiful and mysterious boy named Max who speaks a language she's never heard before . . . and her secret is almost exposed.

Charlie is intensely attracted to Max, even though she can't be sure where his real loyalties lie. As the emergency drills give way to real crisis and the violence escalates, it becomes clear that Charlie is the key to something much bigger: her country's only chance for freedom from the terrible power of a deadly regime.
** got summary from Goodreads

I finally got to read this book!!! After having my dad buy me this for my 20th birthday all those months ago, I finally read it! yeay! Applause for me! hahaha. :)

Anyway, this book is really great! In the book it shows how people are divided into classes according to the language they speak. To me that point in the book reflects the way our society is also divided into classes, only here we are somehow divided by our place in the world. If we are in the Lower class, Middle class, or the Upper class. Well that's what I think. :D

Besides that the book also introduces us to Charlaina or Charlie, the female main character who can understand all the languages of the classes. In their world a person with an ability like hers could be arrested or killed, which is why their family has kept her ability a secret. When Charlie meets Max, a mysterious boy who keeps appearing wherever she is and says she intrigues him; she also seems to be in a way attracted to him. But at the same time she worries of the secret he's hiding and of the language he speaks that she has never heard before. Then sometime in the story she meets Xander who is just as mysterious as Max.

As the story progress, so does the problems. Especially when the capitol is attacked by the group of resistance. Charlie's parents are then forced to ask Charlie to take her younger sister Angelina to a safe place. And when she does guess what she finds out soon enough that Max, turns out to be a member of the royal family, the grandson of Queen Sabara.

Soon enough though she finds herself and her sister in the base of the resistance, and the leader is none other that Xander. Not only that but Brooklyn her best friend is part of the resistance as well. A lot to handle right? Well, the story just get's interesting more and more. She soon finds out that her parent's has been keeping secrets about their true identity.*drum roll* :)) Turns out her father is royalty. Which make Charlie and her sister princesses. Get a hold of that. :) Another reason why I fell for this book more, it surprises me with every chapter. :) I didn't know why I had to wait this long to read this book it's amazing! and after reading the Epilogue chapter of the book...I CAN'T WAIT FOR BOOK 2!!!

There's not a lot to say really but this the book All in all: Awesome.got me hooked up. 5 Stars! must read! :D
